10/24:
midterms done! and two new pictures up
- old friends and a snapshot from the seminary.
10/23:
i'm gonna maaaaaaake it!!! 6 more hours of midterm
season...then sleep! yaaaay!
10/22:
*hope*
times changing, trying not to hide, trying to pray.
still haven't sorted out a lot of things...some
unpleasant, others so good
they're scary.
if that's enigmatic, so it goes. this is a news page,
not a diary. if you're supposed to know, you
probably already
do. more details for the rest of you in a couple weeks
days.
some more fall pictures posted...had to drive past the canal
and thought i'd pack a
camera...ended up
taking a bunch...another long story.
ok. back to studying. very difficult mid-term
week remains.
10/19:
meh. meh. mehmehmehmehmehmehmehmehmehmeh.
that's all i have to say about that.
10/18:
much to do. busy mid-terms week. not much
stress, though...should do ok. then prolly the manna
retreat, and a thesisalicious fall break.
lucy's
getting better. :-)
10/13:
two pics up from the last manna talk. more worldview
stuff. meh.
10/10:
dawn of a thesis topic! p.brown has me reading
augustine's de doctrina christiana (that's "On
Christian Teaching," for you linguistic goobers), and
fishing out interesting cultural subtexts. he suspects
i'll find more than enough for a basic, not-very-interesting
thesis -- which is perfect, after all, since i'm finally
becoming aware that any time an undergraduate classics major
finds something "interesting," 9 times out of 10
it's because they're "wrong." always be
suspicious of people that find New Things in 2000 year old
texts -- they're either about to single-handedly upend
decades or centuries of bad scholarship (of which there is
plenty to upend, admittedly) or they're just plain
completely off the mark (90% chance). same is true for
religion and english, really. healthy skepticism is
always healthy.

10/9:
wow. one more embarrassing moment for the old bucket
of shame -- turns out i forgot to send one of the writers a
copy of his article after editing it for the CO
this summer...meaning he was rather shocked to find his name
attached to an article quite unlike the one he'd
submitted. he's not pleased (though he's being quite
gracious about the whole affair), i'm
embarrassed, my former boss is not saying much, and the
whole summer drops another notch on my "things i like
to talk about" scale. uggh.
10/7:
new otr
cd = good.
10/5:
unvoiced expectations are a funny thing. how often do
we feel betrayed by people for not doing things we never
asked them to do? this is absurd.
10/2:
career fair? dating? theses? PFSHAW!
forget it all! me and my dogs, we'll watch the sunset
from the trailer's front porch and laugh at you all!
WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
9/28:
the poof has risen. the poof has fallen again. so goes the
poof. sf3
updated.
9/25:
the poof shall rise again...
9/22,
3:12 am: close call over.
i got a little over-zealous with overclocking my system
(~10:30 pm), then screwed up the repair (~11:00) which
resulted in corrupting
my OS.
completely. after panicking (~11:30-12:00) i went and
begged for help...aka finding an obliging friend with a
desktop who would let me splice my ailing hard drive onto
their motherboard so that i could try to recover at least
Some of my data...dan
and francis
obliged (thankyouthankyouthankyou), resulting in a return of
~30% of my sanity.
1:00-2:00
am consisted of troubleshooting, totally reworking my bios
and reinstalling windows from scratch. wonder of
wonders, though! windows XP managed to undo all of my
idiocies AND recover all my data and most of my
programs. another hour of downloading service packs (aka
worm-proofing) and repairing MS office...and i'm fully
operational again!
i
already miss some of my fancy tweaks and hacks...but i'll
have to think for a while before starting down that road
again.
oh
man. i'm tired.
9/20:
happy birthday pegs! we miss you!
9/17:
OIT's Unix
servers are reporting that the disk space on your OIT-provided
Unix account is filled...
Thus the
duckpond grows again: from 20mb to 40 mb; now to
90mb.
john's b-day up.
9/15:
beach retreat up, plus some random stuff. wedding pics
coming soon... posted.
9/7:
beach retreat was fun. gallery soon.
although the impatient can check out the pefgallery
now.
9/2,
5:06:25 pm: Hebrew is DONE.
.
8/31:
construction continues. no, this probably isn't the
final form, but it's a modular enough layout that i'm just
gonna rebuild the whole web and make minipatches
later. no rush. school looms.
.
8/29:
Duckpond v4.0 dies a horrible death on the cutting room
floor! so sad! so sorry!
welcome
to test #1 of v4.1...subtitle coming soon! some
possibilities:
-
"frames
stink never mind i'm starting over again"
-
"the
final version...#2!"
-
"sites
with version numbers are soooooooo lame!"
-
"isn't
your hebrew final in 3 days?"
-
"you
haven't had a date in a reeeeally long time, have
you?"
-
"less
stinky than 4.0!"
-
"strangely
reminiscent of 1.0!"
-
"do
you even remember 1.0?"
-
"gosh
this background makes everything hard to read..."
-
"are
you colorblind?!?!?"
-
"dude...i
still don't get this whole duck thing..."
.
8/10:
wedding gallery finally done! only 2 months
late!
.
8/9:
rachel says i need to move my bottom on the wedding
pictures. sigh. methinks the meager little
gallery is going to be very anticlimactic.
haven't really had any time to work on this
site...which is prolly not a surprise to the peeps
waiting for updates...
but i did go to the
beach...
and had some friends over for dinner.
:-)

.
8/4:
well...hebrew's more sane these days...that is to say,
we had an easy day and i managed to catch up a
little...still about 3 lessons behind and feeling
it. life goes on.
picture of
the day (perhaps a new section for the pond?):
skateboard bowling at princeton pres!
.
7/31: just
spent about 6 hours straight working on the church
site. it's nowhere near done yet...and looks
like it might need to be rebuilt with javascripts
instead of dhtml...which would be ANNOYING.
but hey.
that's just technogibberish to you. so i'll stop
babbling and give you a
link.
ooooh...and
finished what should be the final reformat of this
page here...this time with the whole thing (hopefully)
being more tolerant of other monitor sizes (ie above
1024x768)...more importantly, though, this shaved
about 50 seconds off the initial download time for
normal modems...which brings this whole project back
under the "reasonable download" limit.
now i just need to propagate the format across the
web, and import all the pages from the old web.
nothing much.
i don't
want to work. i want to play...

*snif*

7/26:
dinner & cookies!
still
working on the basic site design. arg.
.
7/20:
woo! mexico gallery
complete. weddings coming soon...
summer's going pretty
well. definately Much-To-Do, but that's nothing
new. hebrew hasn't been too hard yet, but the
first test isn't until this friday.
sorta miss the
accountability & fellowship of the school year.
but so it goes. would still be there if i made
time for it. but hanging with the seminary crew
is pretty cool. lots of neat people. and
i'm starting to get more comfortable at church.
life goes on.
working on revising
this design...nothing solid yet...
.
7/18:
back from mexico...new
system is complete...major updates coming
soon-soon-soon!
although an apology for
now -- the current uploads are going to take ~24 hours
(blasted 56k) so there will be a LOT of missing
pictures for the remainder of the weekend. all
pagelinks should be intact, though.
7/4:
mwouhahahahaha!!!!
scratchpad
updated with the final loadout.
[edit - gone]
'sides
that? apologies to all, but i won't be able to
get the wedding pics (jane & ted and matt &
annie) up until mid-july. leaving for mexico at
5:45 tomorrow morning and won't be back until next
sunday.
after
that...if y'wanna hang, email me! i like to
hang. hanging is fun. hanging is good.
hang with meeeee!!
.
6/28:
mmm. system shopping done.
now just gotta wait until the end of mexico for
assembly.
.
6/23:
almost finished with Princeton Observer...just
UPenn & Cornell to go. i'll have to see
about posting to PDF's when i'm done.
.
6/21:
finally got the hang of linking across frames.
handy thing, that.
also readjusted all the
margins to be compatible with the surprisingly large
toolbars on some XP machines. no hope of
compatibility with 800x600 monitors, though...but hey,
that's less than 19% of my hits!
haven't migrated the
changes to the other sample pages, yet, though.
in the
meantime...i
should be doing real work...
.
6/19:
this is test #2 of Duckpond v4. Like it?
If not, holler now while i'm still testing.
When you're done
looking around, click
here, to go back to Duckpond v3.
In the meantime...
Eyecandy!
(that
means a summer sampler gallery, sillyhead)
